December 11, 2019

We are back for almost two weeks and one week from today we will be in Florida.  We will be staying in Plan City, the hometown of our daughter-in-law.  We will celebrate Christmas with the Dolan family.   We will do a few activities with the family as will.

Paul and I will be running a 10K in Winter Haven on the morning of December 21, 2019, after that Paul and Gretchen will run the 5K.

I did a practice run on Sunday and completed 6.26 miles at a pace of 10:05 per mile.  So, I feel ready for this race, at least I know I can do it.  I have been running on the treadmill at the Y a few times a week too.

Late last week I got the sad news that my friend Rich had died.  He was one of the key legal staff at Buck for 27 years, he was a sharp business person and one of the kindest persons you would know.  As he was my age this was hard to hear.  He had an advanced case of cancer that was not caught until about 7 months ago.  The initial treatments seemed to be going well, however that changed recently and resulted in his recent death.

Today I started out with my Food Pantry run this morning, there was two cartons of milk and some baked goods.  I then went to the post office to mail Christmas Cards and a quick run to Shoprite.  It was early and the store was quiet with not too many people in there.  I was walking to the refrigerator section when I spotted a lady that looked familiar…. I stopped and then asked if she was Nancy – she said yes and she recognized me – called me Paul at first.  This was Nancy, my son’s second grade teacher, a dear teacher and lady who was widowed a number of years ago.  She has come to the group several times but not recently – I have tried to contact her to make sure she is OK.  She told me her daughter does keep close eye on her.  I encouraged her to come to our support group holiday party next week.  She agreed to take a selfie with me.

It is important to watch for our neighbors to make sure they are OK or need some help.  Especially this time of year when people get together with families and some do not or cannot be with family at this time.

Last night we had a light dusting of snow and all the trees were snow covered this morning.
